And then Fallout 4 will cause mixed feelings for several hours. On the one hand, we are pleased with the new loot collection system without a separate window, on the other hand, we are saddened by the stripped-down dialog system. The beauty of the wastelands has become a higher level, animations have smoothed out the picture after the clumsy third part, but the designers have filled the world with details of America in the alternative 20s, distorting that unique and familiar atmosphere. The combat system has been made dynamic, VATS has been turned into slow-mo, and aiming has been brought to mind, but you will have to fight every 2 meters - the world of Fallout 4 has become closer and more aggressive.
Power armor has become an Iron Man costume, armor and weapons can be modified, almost completely changing their appearance and characteristics, but the system of perks and abilities has been simplified - it has become clearer, but less variable, and the wow effect of each new level has simply disappeared. And the plot seems too dynamic (although its passage will take a dozen hours), and freedom is sorely lacking.
But once we get to the turning point in history, the real Fallout unfolds in front of us. Complete freedom of action, a huge number of locations and the choice of the method of completing tasks. The factional struggle in which the hero has to participate causes special emotions. He can choose one of the four sides, try to remain neutral, or even play the role of a double agent. Damn it, the game allows us to kill key characters! And the plot will continue to find its new direction.
In Fallout 4, a player can become anyone:
All that's missing is a abolished moral system and a deeper development of relationships with partners, since there are a dozen of them here. And sometimes you want a greater variety of side quests, but this is already a quibble.
DLC gameplay is extended, including not only sets of tools for building, modifying robots and weapons, but also additional locations with their own separate plots and, of course, a lot of side tasks.
It may seem to some that teleportation without bulky capsules from the movie "The Fly" does not fit into this world at all. That the synth story from the third part of the series should have remained a single one, rather than turning the post-nuclear world into cyberpunk. That power armor should work without batteries, and the Brotherhood of Steel shouldn't have metal airships. But the creators of the game decided that it is possible to fantasize about the alternate past of our world endlessly, so the universe of the franchise is now like this.
It makes you uncomfortable or happy, it doesn't matter: it's worth spending at least a couple of dozen hours in the world of Fallout 4, enjoying the unique atmosphere of a resurgent world in which war never changes. The ruins of Boston are waiting for their heroes.
