New graphics, improved balance, changes in the technology tree, full support for mods right in the in—game menu - there were many key changes in the fifth Civilization for the series. But the main thing is that the developers decided to divide the map into hexagons, significantly changing the idea of the strategic confrontation of states. 

If you're going to play, try the vanilla version first, and then install global custom mods with new features. And don't forget about the DLC. You can also play online with friends who are fans of turn-based strategies — they definitely won't refuse.
